Staycation Ideas for the Modern Day Workaholic

Workaholics are people who spend many hours of the day working, often far more than is healthy for them. There are even those who take things to entirely new levels and become what are known as hyper-or super-workaholics. Staycation is the practice of staying home and vacationing in your own city or town. It’s a way to have an exciting vacation at a cheaper cost by choosing activities that are nearby instead of flying to some exotic location. If you’re a workaholic but can’t afford to go on vacation right now, or simply live somewhere that isn’t particularly vacation-friendly (like many cities), then you might find the idea of a staycation appealing. Here is our list of staycation ideas for the modern day workaholic.

Go on a digital detox.

For many people, the internet has become an addiction, and going on a digital detox can help people break this. It can be difficult to know how to go on a digital detox, but it’s a great way to help you get out of the rut of your everyday life and get yourself going again. A staycation is a great time to try a digital detox as there are plenty of things that you can do without the need for a computer or smartphone. Instead of staying inside and working all day, make sure you get some fresh air as well as time away from screens. You can also try going for walks in your neighborhood, or visiting a library or bookstore to get away from the screens.

Hit the gym.

If you have time to hit the gym, it’s a great staycation activity. Not only will it help to get you out of the house, but it will also get your body moving and boost your mood. There are plenty of ways to spice up your gym routine, from attending a yoga class, to taking a dance class, or even signing up for a martial arts class. And even if you don’t have the time or energy to hit the gym every day, you can use some of the items in your home to create a workout. You can do sit-ups, push-ups and squats, or even a workout using a kettlebell or dumbbells.

Catch up with friends.

If you have friends in your area, a great staycation idea is to get together with them. You can take advantage of this time to do something different and exciting – an activity that you wouldn’t be able to do if you were traveling. If you have children, you can look for activities that are suitable for them too. Some ideas are going to a park, visiting a museum or aquarium, or taking in a show or play.

Take in your city’s cultural offerings.

If you live in a city with a strong cultural scene, you can visit cultural offerings during your staycation. You can do this with a group of friends, or even with your family. You can visit museums, art galleries, take in a musical performance, or go to a movie screening. If you don’t have children, you can sign up to be on the mailing list of cultural organizations in your area to find out about upcoming shows and exhibits.

Obviously don’t forget to eat well and sleep regularly.

We know that eating well and getting a good night’s sleep are two of the best things you can do to stay healthy, but they’re often the first things people ignore when they are busy. But while working hard is good, pushing yourself too hard is not. It’s important to know when to slow down and take some time out. A staycation is a great time to make sure you eat well, and you get enough sleep. It’s easy to get into a habit of eating poorly and not getting enough sleep when you are busy, so it’s important to make sure you don’t fall into this trap.

Don’t be afraid to shake things up!

Lastly, don’t be afraid to shake things up – a staycation is a great time to try something you wouldn’t normally do. If you are visiting somewhere new, you can try new foods, or go to a museum or art gallery you’ve never been to before. If you’re visiting somewhere new, use it as an opportunity to try something you wouldn’t normally do at home!
